THE ORCHARD

The uniqueness of this 100 acre orchard is the geometrical layout of the fruit trees, approach and intersectional paths. Every section of the orchard was given and is still known by its regimental name such as “Rasalewala, Khachrewala” and so on.

Home to 3,000 fruit-bearing trees, including mango varieties ranging from a local species called ‘handle’ propagated for the Englishmen who preferred using a spoon to the current day favourites such as ‘chausa’.

Over the years beside mangoes several other fruit trees have been planted such as litchis, pear, amla, lime and jackfruit. Proximity to the river has also blessed Bikram Bagh with several bird species such as tree pie, hornbill, magpie, kingfisher, woodpecker, green barbet alongside wild hares and jungle fowl….
